Retired Marine Corps General Pleads Guilty to Lying to FBI

Retired Marine Corps general James E. Cartwright has pleaded guilty to lying to the FBI and will be sentenced in January.

Cartwright, 67, was a key member of President Obama’s national security team in his former role as vice chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.

He has admitted misleading federal investigators over his discussions with reporters about Iran’s nuclear program in an offense that carries a maximum five year jail term and a $250,000 fine.

At the 30 minute hearing at the Federal District Court for the District of Columbia both Government and defense attorneys recommend that an appropriate sentence for the former Marine Corps general would be from 0-6 months.

However the court is not bound by those guidelines when sentencing takes place on January 17.

After today’s 30 minute hearing, Cartwright, once known as “Obama’s favorite general,” said in a statement: “It was wrong for me to mislead the F.B.I. on November 2, 2012, and I accept full responsibility for this.

“I knew I was not the source of the story and I didn’t want to be blamed for the leak. My only goal in talking to the reporters was to protect American interests and lives; I love my country and continue to this day to do everything I can to defend it.”

General Cartwright’s guilty plea was not for leaking, but for lying to agents who were conducting an investigation into an apparent leak.

Cartwright was vice chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff from 2007 until 2011.

He is a former fighter pilot who is known for his expertise in the more highly technical areas of cyberwarfare and America’s nuclear enterprise.

Newsline video: Kardashian sues gossip site

Reality TV star Kim Kardashian has filed a defamation lawsuit against US celebrity gossip site MediaTakeOut.com.

The move follows the website’s claim that she had faked the Paris robbery at which she was held at gunpoint and was forced to hand over millions of dollars worth of jewelry.

The lawsuit pursues unspecified damages for defamation. It cites both MediaTakeOut.com and Fred Mwangaguhunga, its founder, as defendants.

“After having been the victim of a horrific and traumatic armed robbery in France, Kim Kardashian returned to the United States only to again be victimized, but this time by an online gossip tabloid that published a series of articles in early October 2016 referring to her a liar and thief,” the lawsuit said.

It also stated that Mwangaguhunga declined to publish a retraction and an apology.

Meanwhile an online retailer has withdrawn a Halloween costume which featured a bound and gagged Kardashian lookalike dressed in a white robe and sporting a giant ring.

While the reality TV star was not named in the $70 doll the costume description said: “She has devoted her life to promoting American decadence, youth, and hedonism but all that flashy living caught up with her one night in Paris when armed men bound her, stole her jewelry and her peace of mind.”

Now, following a social media outcry, the company behind the product has withdrawn it from sale and apologised if it “offended anyone”.

‘Killer Clown’ prankster left with bloody nose as victim fought back

There is a “killer clown” lurking everywhere these days, it seems.

It is almost impossible to visit a news website without seeing yet another ‘killer clown’ prank captured on video.

The craze of dressing up as a clown while armed with a weapon to cause panic and terror is sweeping the globe.

However the authorities…and the victims, are fighting back.

As our Newsline video shows, if you dress up as a clown to scare people witless they may not react as you anticipated.

Bloody

Some of the victims fight back and at least one “killer clown” has been left with a bloody nose for his efforts.

And in the UK jobless Connor Jones, 18, has been fined £90 ($110) for turning up at his cousin’s infant school dressed as a clown for a prank.

Jones said he decided to join in the craze after seeing how it has swept America and bought the clown outfit on eBay. He said: “It was just a joke which backfired. I didn’t mean to scare anyone.”

Meanwhile police in England said that anyone who dressed as a clown with the intention of scaring people faced arrest and prosecution.

Attacked

Police in Kent, in the south of England, said they had received 59 clown-related incidents in just three days while a mother in nearby Leicester says she gave birth prematurely after going into labor when a teenage clown jumped out at her.

In the north of England dad Simon Chinery, 28, had his fingers sliced to the bone by a knife-wielding clown who attacked him at an ATM.

Mr Chinery said: “It was awful. Just like something out of a horror movie. I have never been so petrified in all my life.

“This clown craze is getting out of control.”

And as the ‘killer clown’ craze continues McDonald’s has told restaurant managers to ensure that clown mascot Ronald McDonald keeps a low profile…at least for the time being.

Frisked at gunpoint: Bikers who claim to have found Area 51 ‘secret back gate’

Two adventure bikers claim to have discovered a secret back gate to Area 51.

The daring duo filmed what happened when they rode along a Nevada dirt track close to the perimeter of the Air Force Base where Area 51 is said to be located.

They had already passed a sign which warned that trespassers could be stopped with ‘deadly force’ but decided to carry on and press their luck.

Camouflage

Shortly afterwards their helmet camera captures them being confronted by two armed men wearing camouflage gear who order them to halt.

The two men emerge from a white pick-up truck, train their weapons on the intruders and shout: “Get your f***ing hands up.”

After being frisked and asked what they are doing in the area, the bike duo are told: “Turn around and get the f*** outta here.”

Before they left, they were warned that they face fines of $750 if they are spotted in the area again.

Gunpoint

The duo later uploaded their helmet camera footage to the YouTube channel MacADVentures under the title: “Held at Gunpoint by Camo-dudes.”

The bikers wrote: ‘We might have to take this down soon due to the US government. Don’t let them hide this.

“This is raw and shot in realtime. Not fake or PHONY! We bring you the extreme footage shot by us.

“WATCH the ONLY footage you’ll ever see of AREA 51 camo dudes holding civilians at gunpoint!”

The front gate to the Air Force Base is the only designated entrance to the site and it is heavily guarded by both by human personal and hi-tech sensors.

Cat-astrophe averted as terrified kitten rescued with Singapore Sling

This is the dramatic moment a terrified kitten was rescued from a tiny 12th storey ledge in a high-rise apartment building.

The four-month-old kitten found it easy to climb out onto the narrow ledge but was too frightened to attempt climbing back in.

Animal charity SPCA received a call that the Persian cross kitten was trapped on a high rise apartment block in Singapore and sent rescue officer Yao Huang to help.

A resident from an apartment block opposite had seen the trapped cat and raised the alarm.

Mr Huang used a long pole with a sling attached to the end in this most delicate of rescue operations.

One wrong move could have led to disaster and two police officers were waiting below with a blanket to try and catch the cat if things went wrong.

At first, it did not look good, because as Mr Huang attempted to position the sling around the kitten’s neck it panicked and began moving away.

Eventually it was backed up into a corner but it took a couple more attempts before the sling was safely in position and the kitten could be gently lifted to safety.

The rescue was captured on video and posted on the SPCA Facebook page where it proved a huge hit.

The SPCA said: “Our rescue officer swiftly brought the kitten to safety. The kitten was then reunited with its owner who was advised to mesh up the windows and gate, to prevent the kitten from slipping out of the unit or falling out of the windows.

“Cats and kittens are curious animals and they risk falling out of an open window by simple acts such as chasing a bird that was flying past.

“We thank the caller who alerted us to this case and the two police officers from Ang Mo Kio North neighborhood police center, for their assistance in our rescue mission.”
